Come this Thursday, February 16th, to celebrate the anniversary of Cub Scouts at our annual Blue and Gold Dinner. The Dinner starts at 6:00pm. We'll treat you to an excellent spaghetti dinner (meatballs optional), with garlic bread, salad, and of course, a birthday cake for cub scouting. The scouts will provide entertainment - including music, skits, and a 10 act play (in 10 minutes). We hope to see you there. Families, don't forget to RSVP to your den leader, so we have an idea how many are attending.

The Annual Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby takes place January 21st, at 11:00am at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (1315 N Stevens). Once again, the Boy Scouts will provide the event staff. Weigh in at 11:00am, with Pack Meeting opening at 11:45 and racing starting at noon. During the races, the concession stand will sell hot dogs, tofu dogs, chips, drinks and desserts. It is always a fun day of racing and excitement. Kids received their cars at the December pack meeting. Check with you den leader if you missed the pack meeting or missed getting the car kit. Most dens will have a work session in someone's garage to build out the car. Kids must build a new car to race. Racing for adults is also available. The kids and adults consistently produce fast and fun cars, so come and enjoy the racing.

For our annual Service Project, we assembled care packages for service men and women serving overseas. The boys brought lots of the goodies lacking in Afghanistan - including toothbrushes, granola bars, Christmas stockings and such. Then they added a personal letter thanking the soldiers for their service, and packaged them all up. It was a great night. Thanks also to Lt. Col. (Ret) Fred Wallenborn for relating how important the care packages will be for the soldiers, and for fielding a variety of questions from the audience.

From 9:00am to noon, on Saturday, October 8th, we will be out in force at Washington-Hoyt elementary washing cars. Please use our Car Wash Sign-up Sheet to list what you can bring to the car wash. Also, the best way to make the fundraiser successful is to sell car wash tickets before the event. Get the tickets from you den leader or print out the Car Wash Tickets here. |

We have some hard-working parents who give generously of their time to help run our pack, but we do need some help. There are opportunities to contribute either behind the scenes or more front and center. We are also in need of a den leader for either the Tiger or Wolf den. If you are able to help, please let us know.

The start of the year also means it's time for our annual dues, $75 per scout, due by November 1, 2011. Of this amount, $25 goes to the Boy Scouts of America, $15 goes to support Pack 219 and our group activities, and $35 goes to your individual den for project supplies, badges, etc. You can provide payment in cash or check (payable to Pack 219) to your den leader or the pack treasurer, Sandy Brown. Scholarships are available to those families who may have difficulty paying the dues -- we do not want any children to be excluded from the pack because of financial hardship. Ask one of the scout leaders for more information.

The September 15 Pack meeting is "Bring a Friend Night". Invite a friend and let's show them what the scouts are about. This is a great opportunity to welcome some new scouts into our group. There will be some games and we will have some fun.

The March Pack Meeting will be the last for the Webelos II. They will be presented with the Arrow of Light, the highest honor in Cub Scouts, and will be crossing over into Boy Scouts. Enjoy the crossing over ceremony and take part in the annual Ice Cream Social to celebrate their accomplishments (and to enjoy ice cream). So make sure the March Pack Meeting is on your calendar - March 17th at 6:30pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (1315 N Stevens). Don't forget to bring a favorite ice cream topping to share.
